Chapple to lead Lancashire

Captain Glen Chapple will take responsibility for Lancashire's first XI for the rest of the season in the wake of coach Peter Moores' departure.

Director of cricket Mike Watkinson outlined changes to the county's coaching structure on Friday, just a couple of days after Moores oversaw his final game in charge at Old Trafford.

Moores is taking up the England head coach role for the second time, coming in to replace Andy Flower who stepped down in the wake of the Ashes whitewash in Australia.

Chapple completed his Level Four coaching course over the winter but remains a key part of the Lancashire attack and he could feature against Northants on Sunday.

Minimise disruption

Watkinson said: "It is crucial that we minimise the disruption to the cricket department while we are in the middle of an important run of matches and therefore we need to ensure that we have continuity and provide support, leadership and resources to help us achieve our aims and objectives.

"In his position as club captain, Glen Chapple will have responsibility for the first team squad. Gary Yates will support Glen and spend the vast majority of his time around the first team squad.

"The club are actively looking to have an additional coaching resource in place as soon as possible, whose primary role will be working with the Second XI along with other coaching duties.

"Academy Director/Player Development Manager John Stanworth will support the Second XI for the forthcoming fixtures but fundamentally his role will remain unchanged."
