Chievo lose to 10-man Samp

Chievo remained firmly in the Serie A relegation mix after throwing away the lead to lose 2-1 against 10-man Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday.

The team from Verona headed into the game just two points clear of the drop zone but looked set to haul themselves away from trouble when Cyril Thereau converted from the penalty spot midway through the second half after Sampdoria defender Shkodran Mustafi had been sent off for a professional foul on Victor Obinna.

But the mid-table hosts made light of their numerical disadvantage and turned the game on its head with two goals in the final 10 minutes, Citadin Eder equalising in the 81st minute and Roberto Soriano completing the comeback in stoppage time.

Luca Toni proved he is fit for the World Cup as he inspired Hellas Verona to a 4-0 win over Catania with his 19th and 20th goals of the season.

The 36-year-old's presence was too much for Catania to handle as he led his team's push for a place in the Europa League next season.

Marquinho and Juan Gomez completed the rout against a Catania side whose relegation to Serie B could be confirmed next weekend.

Elsewhere, Lazio claimed a 2-0 win at Livorno thanks to Stefano Mauri's first-half score and a 51st minute penalty by Antonio Candreva.

Mauricio Pinilla scored from the penalty spot in the 35th minute as Cagliari defeated 10-man Parma 1-0. Parma lost defender Felipe to a straight red card in the 53rd minute for fighting.

Torino moved into sixth place thanks to a 2-0 home win over Udinese. Omar El Kaddouri opened the scoring in the 16th minute and Ciro Immobile, who had set up the opener, sealed the win with a second goal in the 57th minute.
