Cibulkova into last four
Top seed Dominika Cibulkova advanced to the semi-finals of the BMW Malaysian Open on Friday.
Cibulkova advanced to the semi-finals, but only after edging past sixth seed Zarina Dyas in an epic contest.
Cibulkova, whose victory over Hsieh Su-wei in the previous round was her WTA-leading 22nd match win of the year, lost the opening set and saved 20 of the 26 break points she faced in a thrilling clash lasting more than two and a half hours.
The world number 10 eventually prevailed 4-6 6-2 6-4 and will face third seed Karolina Pliskova in the last four after she beat Turkey's Cagla Buyukakcay.
Buyukakcay, who scored a 6-4 6-4 win over Tadeja Majeric in the previous round to become the first Turkish player in history to reach a WTA quarter-final, could not take her challenge any further as she lost by the same score to Pliskova.
In the other semi-final, China's Zhang Shuai will face Donna Vekic after the seventh seed defeated Patricia Mayr-Achleitner 6-4 7-5.
Second seed Zhang needed almost two hours to beat Poland's Magda Linette 6-2 2-6 6-1 in a rollercoaster match.
