Cibulkova up and running
Top seed Dominika Cibulkova reached the second round of the BMW Malaysian Open with a straight-sets victory over Pemra Ozgen in Kuala Lumpur.
The 24-year-old Slovakian saw off the Turkish qualifier 6-1 6-3 in just over an hour to set up a second-round match against Hsieh Su-wei.
After surviving a scare at the start of the second set, Cibulkova told wtatennis.com: "In the first set I was feeling quite good, but in the second set I changed my racquet for new balls and it was a little mistake from my side, because the tension was not right.
"When it was 2-3 (down) I changed my racquet again and I was back on the track I needed to be on.
"Overall I was very aggressive and didn't give her a chance to play slice and get me off the court."
In second-round action on Wednesday, fourth seed Patricia Mayr-Achleitner of Austria eventually defeated Montenegro's 19-year-old Danka Kovinic 6-4 3-6 6-1 after more than two-and-a-half hours.
Kazakhstan's Zarina Diyas, who is seeded sixth, claimed a 6-1 6-4 win over Italian qualifier Giulia Gatto-Monticone, while Magda Linette of Poland also claimed a straight-sets victory as she got past qualifier Lyudmyla Kichenok of Ukraine 6-1 6-2.
