Cirstea dumps Kvitova out
Defending champion Petra Kvitova was sent crashing out of the Rogers Cup after a shock 4-6 7-5 6-2 defeat to Sorana Cirstea in Toronto.
The former Wimbledon champion was broken seven times, won exactly half the points on her serve and produced 10 double faults as was condemned to defeat in 2 hours and 13 minutes.
Unseeded Romanian Cirstea also struggled on serve - being broken five times - but eventually managed to battle past her Czech opponent.
Elswhere, Agnieszka Radwanska saw off the challenge of Sara Errani to progress to the semi-finals with a 7-6 (7-1) 7-5 victory.
In a back-and-forth contest which lasted over two hours, the two players combined to record a staggering total of 15 breaks of serve in just two sets.
Fourth seed Li Na was pushed in the opening set before eventually recording a 7-6 (7-1) 6-2 win over Dominika Cibulkova.
The Chinese player will face Cirseta in the last four while Radwanska will face Serena Williams or Magdalena Rybarikova.
