Aaron Baddeley held the clubhouse lead midway through the opening round of the Humana Challenge in La Quinta, California.
The United States-born Australian mixed two eagles with six birdies and two bogeys to go round the PGA West course in an eight-under 64.
Baddeley was one of four players sitting on eight under. Jeff Maggert had completed 17 holes without dropping a shot to make his way up the leaderboard, while Roberto Castro was equally flawless through 14.
James Hahn was also on eight under having completed 12 holes, including successive birdies on the seventh, eighth and ninth greens.
Five players were sitting on seven under, with Jerry Kelly the only one among them to be in the clubhouse.
