Coloccini: All to play for

Fabricio Coloccini has insisted that motivation will not be a problem for Newcastle United for the remainder of the season as they chase an unlikely European spot.

The Magpies' campaign had looked in danger of fizzling out in disappointing fashion after a three-match losing run earlier this month.

However, they managed to grab a first goal in five games at the weekend as Loic Remy's last-gasp strike sealed a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa.

The result lifted Newcastle back into eighth place, five points behind Everton, and Remy has declared that European football is still the aim.

Coloccini maintains that Newcastle's players have such pride in playing for the club that they will always keep on battling.

"People might say there is not a lot to play for in the rest of the season, but that is not correct. Motivation is never a problem," said the Argentine defender in the Daily Mirror.

"All of us in the dressing room know about Newcastle's history, we are playing for one of the biggest clubs in the country.

"That is what we are fighting for when we go on the pitch."
