Commons picks up top award

Celtic forward Kris Commons has been named SPFL Player of the Month for December.

The former Scotland international played a starring role for the Hoops who won all five matches - without conceding a goal - during the period.

Commons, who spent 435 out of a possible 450 minutes on the pitch, scored four goals to take his tally for the campaign to 12, and help Celtic stretch their lead atop the Premiership table to 10 points with two games in hand.

"It was a good month for me with the two performances against Hearts and Motherwell the highlight," said Commons, the first Celtic player to win the award this season.

"The clean sheet record speaks for itself and obviously going forward we've scored a hatful of goals.

"Coming on the back of being knocked out of the Champions League, December was a good month for us and it gave the supporters something to cheer about.

"In terms of goals, in the summer I would have been looking at double figures for the season but now I am targeting 20-plus," added the 30-year-old who has scored 51 goals since joining from Derby in January 2011.
