Crawley have parted company with director of football Steve Coppell.

Crawley have parted company with director of football Steve Coppell.

The former Reading manager, who played a key role in appointing recently fired boss Richie Barker, had been with the Sky Bet League One club since April 2012.

A statement on the club's Twitter feed read: "The club can confirm that Steve Coppell has left his position as director of football with immediate effect.

"The board of directors would like to thank Steve for his efforts at the club and we wish him all the best for the future.

"The club will always remember Steve for his part alongside (former first-team coach) Craig Brewster in guiding the club into League One."

Chief executive Michael Dunford told the club's website: "Steve will always have a special place in our hearts at Crawley Town FC because he was instrumental in assisting Craig Brewster in securing our promotion to League One and has since been a very good advisor to the both the board of directors and the team management.

"Steve is a long-term friend of our owners and will always be welcome at Crawley Town FC and we wish him every success for the future."

Barker was surprisingly sacked on November 27 with the club 12th in League One. Veteran striker Alexander and chief scout Martin Hinshelwood are in currently in charge of first-team affairs.
