Cork targets new Saints deal

Jack Cork has revealed his desire to sign a new Southampton deal, despite losing his place in the side to the returning Victor Wanyama.

After playing a key role in the Saints' two previous campaigns, Cork saw his place in the starting XI taken by summer signing Wanyama.

However, an injury to the former Celtic player saw Cork given his chance again, and he won much praise for his performances in the process.

However, Wanyama's return has seen Cork once again confined to the bench, but he is far from disheartened, insisting he wants to extend his stay on the south coast, with his current deal due to expire at the end of next season.

"Yes, I think I'd like a new deal," Cork told the Southern Daily Echo.

"I mean, it was hard at the start of the season, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but things have changed, I've been playing a lot of games, and I do love being around here.

"I love everyone here, I'm so settled here.

"I love everything about it, so I would love to stay here, but, obviously, if things go back to how they were at the start of the season then things may change."
