Cornet denies Williams' final

Alize Cornet disrupted the Williams sisters' domination of the Dubai Championship by beating Serena for the first time.

The Frenchwoman will bid for a fourth career win after getting the better of the top seed 6-4 6-4 in their semi-final encounter.

Cornet took advantage of her one set point in the 10th game of the first set with a winning backhand down the line.

The world No 26 jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the second set but Williams stormed back.

But Cornet broke Williams' serve again in the seventh game with a winning forehand down the line.

Williams saved four match points on her own serve in the ninth game, but Cornet served out the match to love in the next.

"It's my best ever win but I haven't realised it yet," Cornet said. "I played a very good match. I didn't even realise who I was playing and that's the way I had to be.

"I forgot it was Serena on the other side, and just got on with my game."

Earlier, Venus Williams crushed Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 6-2 to ease into just her second final in 16 months.

Williams has won in Dubai the last two times she has been fit enough to play in the event, and is now unbeaten in 14 matches.

Wozniacki made a slow start and Williams was able to dominate throughout, completing victory in an hour and 21 minutes.
