Coventry set to host Rugby WC

Coventry's Ricoh Arena has been shortlisted as one of 17 stadiums in contention to play host to the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Tournament organisers England Rugby 2015 on Monday morning published the list of potential grounds, which will be finalised and reduced to 10-12 early in the new year.

Gloucester's Kingsholm is the only Aviva Premiership rugby ground on the list, which includes Twickenham, the Millennium Stadium, the Olympic Stadium, Wembley and some of the biggest club football stadia in the country.

Midlands possibilities include the Ricoh Arena, Villa Park, Leicester's King Power Stadium and Derby's Pride Park.

The Ricoh Arena, under the guise of the City of Coventry Stadium, played host to Olympic football during this summer's Games.
