Craig gutted after defeat

St Mirren manager Tommy Craig was left devastated after his side's 2-0 defeat by Hamilton.

The visitors dictated proceedings for most of the night as Ali Crawford tormented the hosts with a double strike to secure the spoils.

Craig said: "It was a crazy game but if I'm honest we were second-best. We started brightly but never dominated and it's difficult to put a finger on the reason why as soon as we went behind we never really looked like getting back in the game.

"I have been in the game long enough to know you can't guarantee consistency, and I've been here at St Mirren for three years and it's annoying that we seem unable to find the levels of consistency that other teams can have.

"We know Hamilton are a feisty team who would work their socks off but we need to improve."

The victorious Accies player-manager Alex Neil was gushing in his praise for his troops as the newly-promoted side bagged the win.

He said: "Despite losing on Saturday we all have total confidence that we can compete at this level and if my players perform to their maximum we can pick up points in this league.

"I thought all aspects of our game were good, we created numerous chances and I know that this young squad will continue to improve."

Neil was also quick to praise man-of-the-match Crawford. He added: "Ali was unlucky not to start the game on Saturday and I thought he was excellent tonight but to a man they all put a shift in."
