Custom Cuts down Strensall foes
Custom Cut continued his resurgence in form to take the Betfred Play the Scoop6 Strensall Stakes at York under Danny Tudhope.
Jamie Spencer looked to be travelling by far the best at the two-furlong pole as he brought Trade Storm through with a powerful-looking challenge.
But the effort of the 13/2 chance slightly petered out in the closing stages and Custom Cut (11/2) rallied bravely to edge back ahead to score by a neck.
Trade Storm just fought off the late challenge of Lady Lara for second.
The winner could now head for the Joel Stakes at Newmarket before taking in either the Prix de la Foret or the Prix Daniel Wildenstein at Longchamp on Arc de Triomphe weekend.
"I wouldn't mind a yard full of horses like him," said winning trainer David O'Meara, saddling his first winner of the meeting.
"That was a great ride from Danny, he judged it perfectly. I thought he was holding them at the line quite comfortably.
"He might get 10 (furlongs), I've never thought about it really, but he's tough and he'll be even better on ground with some give in it."
