Daly wraps up Rangers victory

Nicky Law and Jon Daly scored second-half goals as Rangers extended their unbeaten run with a 2-0 win over Ayr United.

The hosts held their own in the first period, but Law struck shortly after the break and Daly's header secured a 23rd win in 24 games for the runaway Scottish League One leaders.

Ayr showed their attacking intent in the opening minutes as Kevin Kyle's long-range drive tested Cammy Bell, while Craig Malcolm also went close with a shot from outside the box.

Dean Shiels shot straight at David Hutton as Rangers started to settle, but Bell had to produce a fine low save to repel Michael Donald's fierce drive.

Law should have opened the scoring for the Light Blues when he blazed over after Fraser Aird struck the bar, but Malcolm remained a threat and drove the ball narrowly wide.

Just moments after the break, Ayr's hard work was undone as Law (46) lashed the ball into the bottom corner after he was picked out by Aird.

Daly (59) then delivered another blow to the Honest Men, powering home a header from Lee Wallace's inviting cross.

Aird nearly added his name to the scoresheet with a late shot and Ayr were denied a consolation as Alan Lithgow's effort was inches away in the dying minutes.
