Davis cautious over signings

Steve Davis has admitted that Crewe may struggle to make the signings needed as he looks to add more experience to his squad.

Davis is confident he will be able to add numbers to Alex's roster before the season starts, but revealed he expects many of his top transfer targets to be priced out of availability.

He told the club's official website: "I have always said that we do the best we can to bring in the best we can. That doesn't change and we have a list of targets we would like.

"Some of them won't come off because of the salary budget he have here. When it comes to bringing in experienced players they do cost more. We have players we would love to sign but they sometimes don't come off because of their demands or those of the agents. It can be difficult.

"We lost out on some last summer and they didn't come off but when that happens, you just have to move onto the next one."

He added: "We will do the best we can for the money we can afford because it is important to have that structure in place. I am confident that we get three or four in who will improve us."

Meanwhile, there is uncertainty over the future of Max Clayton, who has yet to sign a new deal and is said to be weighing up his options.
