Davis keen on fast start

Crewe boss Steve Davis is keen to avoid another slow start to the season at Fleetwood as they look to avoid another relegation scrap.

Just one win in 10 games at the beginning of last season left Crewe facing an uphill battle to beat the drop, but 11 points from their final six fixtures proved enough to pull clear of the relegation zone with a bit to spare.

"We are now looking forward to our third year at this level and I am pleased to be a part of this league and this club," Davis told the official website. "Our main goal is to be more consistent and do better than we did last season.

"We have to be realistic because this is a tough league, but we aim to be competitive again and do our best. There is a real determination within the group to do much better and improve. We did that last season and finished strongly and deservedly stayed up after what was a difficult year.

"With everything that we had to deal with and the start we had before Christmas, I think the players deserve great credit for keeping us up and we can now only look forward. I am not one for looking back too much at things and this Saturday we go again."
