Davis rues drop in focus

Steve Davis admitted Crewe paid the penalty for taking their foot off the gas as their three-match winning run came to an end at Tranmere.

Alex had led 1-0 at the interval thanks to a third goal in as many league games from Brad Inman and were seemingly well placed to make it four wins on the spin.

However, two goals in five minutes from Max Power and Adam McGurk turned the game on its head and left Davis to bemoan the causes of defeat rather than delight in victory.

"I said at half-time to keep going on the front foot, but we didn't start the second half well - or the first half - but I thought we edged it first half," he said.

"They (Rovers) were much better second half and came out up the pitch a little bit further, dropped a man behind. We didn't cope with Andy Robinson well in the second half - that little bit of skill and quality he's got to weave out a chance.

"I felt a draw would have been a fantastic result here, and at half time, we could have won."
