Davis 'stunned' by defeat

Crewe boss Steve Davis was surprised by his side's damaging 3-1 home defeat to relegation rivals Notts County.

A Gary Liddle effort and Ronan Murray's brace made the points safe for the Magpies before Mark Ellis registered a late consolation for Alex, who are now just one point above the drop zone.

Davis admitted: "I'm stunned by the result and I don't think we deserved to lose 3-1, but the first goal was always going to be important and we gave away a silly free-kick in the run-up to it.

"I never think we've turned the corner at Crewe. We didn't show enough quality in the final third but they were able to put a lot of bodies on the line.

"We huffed and puffed a little bit and started to play a bit more football. But we switched off for their last two goals."
