Deauville second for Cirrus
Multiple Group One scorer Cirrus Des Aigles had to settle for second in the Prix Gontaut-Biron at Deauville.
The seven-year-old finished a well-beaten fourth when sent off favourite for the King George And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot late last month and trainer Corine Barande-Barbe dropped him back to 10 furlongs as she went in search of a first win this term.
However, despite being well placed to challenge down the outside, Cirrus Des Aigles could not find the necessary extra to overhaul Petit Chevalier in the final furlong.
Mandour, a winner at Sandown last time out, also failed to shine in the Group Two heat, finishing only fourth.
La Pomme D'Amour and Chalnetta dominated the finish of the Group Two Prix de Pomone earlier on the card, with the first-named coming out on top.
The Andre Fabre-trained winner had enough in the tank to repel her rival in the hands of Flavien Prat with Luca Cumani's Emirates Queen back in third.
Hughie Morrison's Quiz Mistress finished out of the frame.
