Defour no-go for Fulham
Fulham have missed out on the signing of Steven Defour after Porto decided to keep hold of the Belgium midfielder.
The 25-year-old spoke to Cottagers boss Rene Meulensteen last week ahead of a potential transfer to west London.
Defour would have cost in the region of £4million and a contract running until summer 2017 was discussed.
However, Porto have since agreed to sell Argentina midfielder Lucho Gonzalez to Qatari club Al Rayyan SC, meaning Defour's services need to be retained at the Estadio do Dragao after all.
Defour's agent Paul Stefani said: "Now Lucho's gone, Steven has to grab his chance as Lucho was the one blocking him.
"Steven was keen on joining Fulham. A few days ago, he even called Rene Meulensteen to discuss a transfer.
"He really wanted to move to Craven Cottage, where he could have signed for three-and-a-half years with an option."
Defour has two years remaining on his contract with the Portuguese giants.
