Delbonis claims Brazil open title

Argentina's Federico Delbonis claimed his maiden ATP title with a three-set victory over Paolo Lorenzi in the final of the Brazil Open.

The 23-year-old lost the first set to the more experienced Italian but rallied for a 4-6 6-3 6-4 win in two hours and six minutes, settling the contest on his second match-point chance having earlier broken in the first game of the decider.

Delbonis' title breakthrough came in his second career ATP final and will see him climb to a career-best 45th in the world when the latest rankings are published on Monday.

While defeat will be tough to take for 32-year-old Lorenzi, the world number 114 can at least reflect on a career-best performance over this past week, having never previously progressed past the last eight of an ATP event.
