Delph wins Villa fans' award

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph has spoken of his delight after being voted the supporters' Player of the Season.

Villa fans are still voting on their choice for the award with two games of the campaign remaining, but Delph has leapt ahead in the polls and is now uncatchable.

The former Leeds United man has been in superb form this season despite Villa's struggles - voted by the fans as man-of-the-match on 11 occasions.

The West Midlands club sealed their safety in the top flight with a 3-1 win over Hull City at the weekend and Delph said: "Since I came to Villa, I have wanted to do well.

"I had a good start to the season and then it was a case of maintaining my form.

"It's a great honour to win this award. It's great that the fans have acknowledged that I've done well for the club."

As voting continues, Leandro Bacuna and Gabby Agbonlahor are joint third while Marc Albrighton fifth and striker Christian Benteke sixth.

Delph will be honoured with the award officially at the end of season dinner, where a host of other big prizes will be handed out, including the Villa player's Player of the Year and both the fans' and players' Young Player of the Year.
