Dettori scores on Derby day

Frankie Dettori's army of followers were able to cheer him home on Baitha Alga in the Investec Woodcote Stakes at Epsom on Derby day.

Mambo Paradise struck for home under Silvestre de Sousa, but the ever-popular Dettori was content to bide his time on Richard Hannon's juvenile.

Sent off the 15-8 favourite having won at Chester previously, he quickened impressively to follow up the win of Thunder Strike for the yard last season.

A trip to Royal Ascot now awaits the Fast Company colt.

Ryan Moore worked wonders to get Richard Fahey's Ballymore Castle into second, two lengths away, as he was off the bridle some way out. Red Icon was third.

Dettori said: "He had a great chance and it was very straightforward - I had the box seat and he quickened up well.

"He'll go to Ascot now and he's on course for another big run."

Hannon said: "We've always liked him and he can go five or six furlongs at Royal Ascot.

"He's taking his racing very well."
