Diego weighing up Santos offer

The future of Atletico Madrid midfielder Diego remains undecided, despite being offered a contract by Santos.

Having previously had a loan spell at the Vicente Calderon, Diego moved back to Atleti in late January after leaving Wolfsburg and has impressed upon his return.

The 29-year-old, whose current deal expires this summer, has now been offered a three-year contract at Santos, which his father and agent Djair says he is weighing up.

"The truth is that we are still talking about details of the contract but we haven't fixed a date to sign the contract," he told Globo Esporte.

"We are waiting for the Spanish league and the Champions League. But the numbers being offered are like what we want. They are within our expectations, it would be a three-year contract."

Meanwhile, Santos director Andre Zanotta admitted that he is keen to sign Diego and says that the Brazilian's arrival would be a major coup for the club.

"It's a difficult negotiation. Diego is a player that is shining and he is in a club that are having a lot of success this year. It's a dream," he said.

"We would really like to have Diego here, but we can't say he is close."
