Div Two: Stalemate at Kia Oval
Division Two promotion rivals Surrey and Hampshire played out an inevitable draw on the final day at the Kia Oval.
Rain and high-scoring meant a stalemate looked likely for the majority of the match and both sides shook hands shortly after Hampshire were dismissed for 354 in their first-innings.
Resuming day four on 167-3, Will Smith (82) and Sean Ervine (80) both posted half-centuries and a final wicket stand worth 60 between Danny Briggs (38 not out) and James Tomlinson (27) saw Hampshire past the follow-on target.
Surrey, who racked up maximum batting points with their first-innings 474-8 declared, came out of the clash with 12 points, while Hampshire collected nine.
Worcestershire have the opportunity to leapfrog Hampshire at the top of Division Two after setting Glamorgan 355 to win on the final day at New Road.
The Pears opened up a 55-run lead in the first-innings thanks to yet another five-wicket haul from Saeed Ajmal - his fifth of the season - before declaring on 299-7 in their second knock.
Ajmal polished off the Glamorgan tail in the morning session, but not before Andrew Salter and Michael Hogan had put on 69 for the final wicket to boost the Welsh county up to 297 all out.
Moeen Ali (80) and debutant Richard Oliver (65) then strengthened Worcestershire's grip on the match with a century stand, handing Glamorgan a daunting run-chase on the final day.
At Chelmsford, Gloucestershire are staring down the barrel of a heavy defeat after Essex racked up 541 in their first innings, a lead of 317.
Ravi Bopara maintained his prosperous summer with the county with a top-score of 147 before the hosts lost their final five wickets for 19 runs.
Battling to avoid an innings loss, Gloucestershire, who were bundled out for 224 in their first knock, made a promising start second time around, closing day three on 194-4.
With Ian Cockbain (42) and Will Gidman (26) still at the crease, Gloucestershire will be hoping to repeat the final day rescue act the pair helped pull off against Surrey earlier in the season.
