Div Two: Surrey surge ahead

Centuries from Steven Davies and Zafar Ansari helped Surrey amass a healthy first-innings lead against Derbyshire on day two of their LV= County Championship clash at the County Ground.

Wicketkeeper Davies returned to form with 124 and Ansari struck a career-best 105 to help Surrey reach 392-8 at the close, leading by 239.

Vikram Solanki (52) made earlier a half-century before Davies and Ansari, 15 overnight, pushed the visitors on.

At the Ageas Bowl, James Vince and Will Smith batted Hampshire into a position of total dominance after their bowlers had skittled Essex for 121.

Essex , replying to Hampshire's first-innings 286, lost six wickets in the space of just 23 runs before lunch, as South African seamer Kyle Abbott (5-44) ran amok.

Hampshire then opted against enforcing the follow-on and when bad light stopped play the hosts were 429 ahead, at 264-2 following an unbeaten 154 from Vince and 78 from Smith.

A century from Jacques Rudolph (108) and 82 from captain Mark Wallace saw Glamorgan on to 337-4 against Kent at Cardiff.

Kent had resumed at 236-8, but the tail could add only 17.

Unbeaten Glamorgan batsmen Chris Cooke (54) and Jim Allenby (59) looked set to move the hosts forwards on Tuesday.

At Grace Road, Worcestershire pace bowler Charles Morris took four wickets as Leicestershire were dismissed for 278, a lead of 41, with Josh Cobb (63) making a half-century.

In reply, Worcestershire were 76-1 in their second knock, with captain Daryl Mitchell 44 not out.
