Djokovic cruises in Beijing
Novak Djokovic reached the quarter-finals of the China Open with a straight-sets win against unseeded Carlos Berlocq on Wednesday.
Djokovic wasted little time booking his place in the last eight as he brushed aside Argentina's Berlocq.
The top-seeded Serbian broke his opponent six times on his way to a 6-1 6-3 victory in one hour and 14 minutes.
It was a marked improvement on his first round performance, when the Australian Open champion was taken to three sets by Michael Berrer.
Djokovic will now face Jurgen Melzer in the last eight, with the Austrian upsetting sixth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov 7-6 (11/9) 2-6 6-1.
Germany's Florian Mayer also came through his second-round match against Romanian Marius Copil 3-6 6-3 6-2.
In the women's tournament in Beijing, Maria Sharapova was a straightforward 6-2 6-2 victor over Sorana Cirstea in the second round.
Polona Hercog also claimed a place in the next round with a hard-fought 7-6 (7/5) 3-6 7-6 (7/3) win over Ekaterina Makarova.
Four third-round contests also took place on Wednesday with third seed Agnieszka Radwanska coming from a set down to see off Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain 2-6 6-1 6-4.
Marion Bartoli, the ninth seed, overcame Julia Goerges 6-3 7-6 (7/2), but 11th seed Ana Ivanovic saw her Beijing challenge ended by Romina Oprandi 6-4 6-3.
Jelena Jankovic was another third-round casualty, falling 7-5 6-4 to Spaniard Carla Suarez-Navarro.
