
Ivan Dodig ended Lleyton Hewitt's hopes in the second round of the Valencia Open in Spain with a 6-1 3-6 6-2 win over the veteran Australian.
Croatian qualifier Dodig, the world number 91, raced through the first set and stepped it up again in the last, breaking Hewitt three times to complete victory in two hours and three minutes to move into the quarter-finals.
Seventh seed Marin Cilic saw off Spain's Fernando Verdasco 6-1 6-4, breaking his opponent four times in the course of their 77-minute match, but fifth seed John Isner was bundled out 7-6 (7/2) 4-6 6-4 by Belgium's David Goffin.
In first round action, Milos Raonic's hopes of reaching the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals were hit by a 7-5 7-6 (7/1) defeat to Luxembourg's Gilles Muller, while Spain's Marcel Granollers beat Czech qualifier Jan Hajek 7-5 6-4.
