Double joy for QPR fan Wall
England's Anthony Wall had two reasons to celebrate after the third round of the BMW PGA Championship on Saturday.
Wall carded a five-under 67 to move into a share of seventh place at Wentworth and discovered on the 17th tee that his beloved QPR had just secured promotion to the Premier League in the play-off final at Wembley.
"I'd just hit my tee shot to 17 and someone in the crowd said, "Do you want to know the score?" And he smiled and I said, 'Okay then,"' Wall said.
"I'm a massive fan. I have full season tickets and I go whenever I can. I know one or two of the coaches. It's a nice club and the owners have put in loads and loads of money and they have made massive efforts. I'm pleased that sometimes things work out.
"Harry Redknapp is a good guy and I know his son Jamie really well and he's a lovely fellow. They have just been desperate to go up. I'm really proud of them because they have worked really hard."
A three-hour rain delay ended any hopes Wall had of watching the game live and he added: "I was disappointed that I was teeing off later because they were playing at 3 o'clock, but I just prayed that they were going to win and I've recorded it.
"I wasn't going to say a word to anyone and just go home and watch it. My secret's out."
