Dragons seal Landman deal

Newport Gwent Dragons have made their seventh signing as they continue to rebuild for next season after South African lock Rynard Landman agreed to join on a three-year contract.

The 27-year-old, who can also play flanker, will join Director of Rugby Lyn Jones' squad over the summer.

Landman played youth and senior rugby with the Leopards before joining the Boland Cavaliers in 2011.

He then made the switch to play for Griquas in the 2012 Currie Cup and after impressing for them, he went on to feature for Super League side Cheetahs.

Having impressed in his 14 appearances for them this season he has now agreed to join the Dragons and Jones was delighted with his new acquisition.

"I am delighted that we have recruited Rynard. It's another piece of the jigsaw and an important signing in the development of the region," Jones told the club's official website.

"He will offer size, strength and experience to the second row and will act as a catalyst in the growth of our current crop of young Welsh locks.

"Not only will Rynard will be a real physical presence in the pack but he will help to bring along Matthew Screech, Cory Hill and Joe Davies."

Landman joins props Boris Stankovich and David Young, hooker Rhys Buckley, lock Ian Gough, wing Aled Brew and full-back Lee Byrne in signing for the Welsh region.
