Du Plessis: Steyn the best

Faf du Plessis feels Dale Steyn's performance in South Africa's World Twenty20 win over New Zealand cemented his place as the best bowler in world cricket.

The Kiwis needed only seven runs from the last six balls but Steyn's fiery pace proved too much for Luke Ronchi and Nathan McCullum, and when Ross Taylor was run out off his final ball, South Africa had held on to win by two runs.

Du Plessis held Steyn back for the 18th and 20th overs, a tactic that paid off in style - he ended up with scintillating figures of 4-17 in four overs in a match where runs were fairly easy to come by.

"He proved today why he's been the world's best bowler for such a long period of time, it was a fantastic bowling performance," du Plessis said.

"As a captain to have a guy like that in the team, anything is possible.

"I thought New Zealand got themselves in the position where they should have won the game and something special was going to be required for us to take it away from them and Dale did just that.

"I said anything under eight required would be tough but I backed Dale to do it.

"We got it down to seven, which was a little bit less than I would have liked it but when you start with three dot balls then you feel like you're right back in it."
