Duff determined to upset odds

Michael Duff believes Burnley are capable of upsetting the odds next season by consolidating in the Premier League.

Sean Dyche's side know they will be back in the big time in 2014/15, with promotion from the Sky Bet Championship already confirmed.

They are, however, being tipped to make an immediate return to the second tier, with few giving them much of a chance among the elite.

Burnley lasted just 12 months in the top-flight the last time they graced that level in 2009/10, but Duff feels they are better equipped to tackle the challenge this time around.

The experienced defender, who has spent 10 years at Turf Moor, said: "We've already been written off.

"Someone told me we are already 4/9 favourites to go down and we don't even know who's going to be in the league yet!

"Everyone expected us to fall away this season but we've always got stronger."

Duff also claims that this season's promotion-winning exploits taste sweeter than those five years ago, when Owen Coyle took Burnley up via the play-offs.

He added: "This season has to be better.

"Last time we nicked our way into the play-offs, which is a cup competition in itself.

"I'm not taking anything away from that side, but to show the consistency we have is great."
