Dummett red card overturned

Newcastle defender Paul Dummett has had his red card from the 2-1 defeat by Liverpool rescinded following a hearing of the Football Association's Independent Regulatory Commission.

The 22-year-old was given a straight red by referee Phil Dowd shortly after coming on in the closing stages of Sunday's defeat at Anfield.

The Wales U21 international made an appeal on the grounds of wrongful dismissal following Dowd's decision three minutes from the end of the match after his clumsy tackle on Luis Suarez.

The Independent Regulatory Commission upheld his appeal and the decision means Dummett will now not have to serve a ban when the new Premier League season starts in August.
