Eagles go clear in BBL

Newcastle Eagles moved two points clear at the top of the BBL Championship standings after beating London Lions on Sunday.

Nearest challengers Leicester Riders slipped up at Plymouth Raiders.

Damon Huffman was in magnificent form for Newcastle as he poured in 36 points - almost twice as many as the next-best scorer in the game - to help the Eagles recover from a first-period deficit to claim a 94-71 win over the Lions.

That victory put daylight between Newcastle and Leicester, who slumped to an 86-82 defeat at Plymouth Raiders despite a game-high 29 points from guard Zaire Taylor.

In Sunday's other games, Glasgow Rocks thrashed winless bottom club Mersey Tigers 109-72 while Cheshire Phoenix squeezed past Sheffield Sharks 80-79.
