Easy for Lisicki in Brisbane

Sabine Lisicki cruised through to the second round of the Brisbane International with a straight-sets win over Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova.

The No 7 seed needed just 80 minutes to wrap up a 6-3 6-4 victory at the Pat Rafter Arena against the world No 37.

The hard-hitting German fired down seven of the contest's eight aces, breaking serve once in each set.

Lisicki, the Wimbledon runner-up, was one of only four players to beat Serena Williams during 2013 and she opened her season in style by overcoming the 42 degrees Celsius Down Under.

She now meets Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland in round two.

Meanwhile, Britain's Heather Watson qualified for the main draw by beating Aussie Jarmila Gajdosova 6-4 6-4.

Serena Williams and Victoria Azazenka are the top two seeds, with Maria Sharapova also competing.

The 26-year-old Russian opens her account on Monday when she faces Caroline Garcia of France in what will be her first competitive match since August.
