Easy month ahead for Be My Gal

Roger Charlton will give his smart filly Be My Gal at least a month off after she failed to handle testing ground at Deauville on Tuesday.

The daughter of Galileo had won a Group Three on her previous trip to the seaside venue and while she faced a tough task up against the French Guineas and Oaks winner Avenir Certain, hopes were high she would perform with credit.

However, jockey Frankie Dettori reported that he knew from an early stage she was not comfortable on the very soft ground and she trailed in last of the seven runners.

Charlton wrote on his website: "The ground proved to be too holding and soft for Be My Gal in Deauville yesterday.

"Frankie had been very enthusiastic before the race that she would handle it, but he reported that after 100 metres he knew we were in trouble.

"Luckily she did not have a hard race and the winner looked a bit special. She deserves at least a month before we make any plans for her."
