Encore turned over at Hexham

Last season's Champion Bumper runner-up Regal Encore suffered a shock reverse as 66-1 shot Seeyouatmidnight scored at Hexham.

Regal Encore ran an encouraging race when second on his hurdling debut at Aintree in October and having comfortably gone one better at Plumpton next time, Anthony Honeyball's stable star was a 1/4 favourite to follow up in Northumberland in the Hexham Bookmakers Novices' Hurdle.

Champion jockey Tony McCoy cut a confident figure for much of the extended two-mile test and his mount still appeared full of running rounding the punishing home turn.

However, Sandy Thomson's front-running Seeyouatmidnight, under Grand National-winning jockey Ryan Mania, was quick over the final flight and galloped all the way to the line to hold off the market leader by two lengths.

The winner had won an Irish point-to-point in April and was making his first start for new connections.
