England suffer opening defeat

England Women fell just short of victory in their opening match of the Women's World Twenty20, as West Indies prevailed by nine runs in Sylhet.

Charlotte Edwards' side restricted their opponents to 113-7, having been 108-2 in the 15th over, thanks to Stafanie Taylor's fifty.

Edwards and Sarah Taylor began England's response strongly, with 42 scored from the first five overs.

But England slipped from 63-2 to 97-7, as Deandra Dottin took 4-12 in a dazzling spell.

Dani Hazell and Anya Shrubsole put up a late fight, dragging England to within 18 runs of victory with one over left.

However, Shrubsole's run out at the hands of Merissa Aguilleira ended hopes of a dramatic victory.
