Enzo out to silence critics
Enzo Maccarinelli has vowed to prove his doubters wrong by ripping the WBA light-heavyweight title from German Juergen Braehmer on Saturday.
Maccarinelli suffered a series of heavy stoppage defeats in the wake of his high-profile world cruiserweight title showdown against David Haye six years ago.
But the 33-year-old defiantly resisted growing calls to retire and is convinced he can cap his remarkable comeback by overcoming the veteran home favourite in Rostock.
Maccarinelli told Wales Online: "Winning in Germany is not about becoming a two-weight world champion - it's about redemption.
"People thought I was finished and I can't lie, some of my performances in the last couple of years have been terrible.
"But there was a lot going on in my mind and I should have taken a break from boxing.
"It's a good story though - I've been at the top and I've been at the bottom, and now I'm climbing my way back up again."
