Mevlut Erdinc's double sent Rennes through to the last 16 of the Coupe de la Ligue with a 3-2 win over fellow Ligue 1 strugglers Nancy.
Erdinc's 27th and 47 minute strikes put Rennes in command of Tuesday night's tie after Romain Alessandrini had cancelled out Djamel Bakar's early opener for Nancy. Benjamin Moukandjo scored a late consolation for the visitors.
Ligue 1 Bastia shrugged off four straight losses to ease past third-tier Metz 3-0. Toifilou Maoulida scored twice for the hosts while the visitors had Ali Bamba sent off after 18 minutes.
Auxerre, who have made a poor start to life in Ligue 2 following relegation last season, also reached the last 16 with a 2-0 win over fellow Ligue 2 side Angers.
Despite the 16th minute sending-off of Cameroon midfielder Georges Mandjeck, Auxerre took the lead two minutes later through Paul Ntep and Terence Makengo added a second from the spot moments later.
