Eremenko: Best season yet

Alexei Eremenko is convinced he can have his best spell yet at Kilmarnock after signing for the Ayrshire club for a third time.

Killie only avoided a relegation play-off on the final day of last season when Kris Boyd's 22nd goal of the campaign handed them victory at Hibernian.

Despite Boyd's departure for Rangers, Eremenko, 31, is looking for huge improvement as they begin a new era on Rugby Park's freshly-installed artificial surface.

"Top six definitely should be the aim with this team, and not just survival," he said.

"I see some good players here. Even if I have only trained once, I know the players that have come in are good. And of course I'm in better shape than I was the last time.

"The young players got their first experience last season. They are one year older now and have one year more experience now. And this pitch suits the young players perfectly."

Kilmarnock added further to their squad with the signing of 20-year-old former Hibernian midfielder Euan Smith on a three-year deal.

Smith has been training with Killie's under-20 squad for several weeks.
