Sara Errani will face Petra Kvitova in the final of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after seeing off Roberta Vinci to advance.
Errani and Vinci are close friends and doubles partners but Errani put that to one side to dispatch her fellow Italian 6-3 6-3.
"I just tried to play my game, tried to be as solid as I could," Errani told the WTA website. "It's tough because we know each other very well and know how each other plays, so I had to do what she didn't think I would do.
"It's very difficult to play against someone who knows what you're going to do in every shot."
Vinci was disappointed to lose, but emerged satisfied with her efforts and happy to see her friend go through.
"She played better than me today," she said. "But for sure I'm happy I played an unbelievable tournament - this is my first semi-final here and I won against two top-10s. I played a great tournament.
"I'm sad, and it's not easy, but in a few hours I will be better."
Errani, seeded fifth here, made it to the final of the French Open last year, but Sunday will rank as the second biggest match of her career.
It will pit her against the sixth-seeded Kvitova, who saw off Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 6-4 in the other semi-final.
"I'm really glad how I played today - it was a great match," Kvitova said. "We are different players. She tries to put the balls back and I'm the person who is playing aggressively and going for the winners. So what happens in the match really depends on if I'm missing a lot or no, and I played well today."
Kvitova has won on all three occasions she has played Errani in the past.
