Everton v Fulham preview

Everton midfielder James McCarthy is suspended for Saturday's visit of Fulham after accumulating five bookings this season.

Leon Osman, a substitute for last weekend's 1-1 draw at leaders Arsenal, is the most likely replacement as the Toffees look to extend their unbeaten run in the league to nine games, although youngster Ross Barkley could be asked to drop slightly deeper.

Defender Tony Hibbert picked up a slight knee injury in training and will not be fit until next week while left-back Leighton Baines is realistically at least 10 days away from recovering from a broken toe.

For Fulham, striker Darren Bent returns to the squad for the trip after recovering from a slight hamstring problem.

Defender Fernando Amorebieta (hamstring) could also return to the squad.

"We will keep an eye on Fernando and assess him. He is close," said Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen, who saw his side win for the first time under his tenure with a 2-0 home victory over Aston Villa last weekend.

Brede Hangeland is making good progress after surgery on his sciatic nerve complaint while striker Hugo Rodallega is recovering from a muscle injury and defender Matthew Briggs is progressing well after his hernia operation.
