Fenerbahce close in on Diego
Atletico Madrid's Diego has confirmed that he has reached an agreement with Fenerbahce, although the deal is not done yet.
The Brazilian playmaker will reportedly sign a three-year contract with the Turkish champions after the club recently confirmed talks had opened.
The 29-year-old, who returned for a second spell at the Vicente Calderon from Wolfsburg in January, was also interesting former club Santos, but he preferred to remain in Europe.
In comments reported by Globo Esporte, Diego is quoted as saying: "Fenerbahce and I already have an agreement (with) numbers and everything else. Now I need to undergo the medical and finalise all situations.
"There are still details left, but there is a big chance I will sign a contract with them.
"I have already started the process of cancelling the contract with Atletico. Then I'll go to Istanbul to undergo the medical and finalise the deal. I think that will happen at the start of next week."
Diego, who scored a stunning goal in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona, denied that the defeat to Real Madrid in the final had influenced his decision.
"The defeat in the Champions League final didn't have any influence," he added.
"Of course I was very sad but it was all a matter of reaching an agreement, their interest and mine. We reached an agreement."
