Fenlon relishing Celtic connection

Pat Fenlon's new-look Hibernian have begun to look ahead to stopping a rampaging Celtic next Sunday after moving one point off the bottom.

Celtic are unbeaten in 17 domestic matches and four points clear of Rangers at the top of the table after their 1-0 win over Inverness on Saturday.

Hibs, meanwhile, followed up their 1-0 William Hill Scottish Cup win over Kilmarnock with a 0-0 draw at home to Aberdeen on Saturday to move one point clear of bottom club Dunfermline in their fight for survival.

Celtic travel to Easter Road next Sunday having beaten Hearts 4-0 on their last trip to Edinburgh last week and Fenlon is relishing the opportunity to test his side against the current league leaders.

The Hibs manager said: "After watching them on Wednesday it will be a good test for us.

"It's a great game to look forward to for everybody. Celtic are on a magnificent run and the challenge for us is to try to stop that.

"It will be a good occasion for everybody, plus we'll have players back (from injury and suspension).

"It gives us a bit of a headache going into it which is good."

Midfielder Jorge Claros, once a trialist at Rangers, added some bite on his debut, while on-loan Wolves player Matt Doherty impressed in the centre of defence, having also played full-back.

"I knew Matt was going to be a really good player for us. His attitude is fantastic," said Fenlon, who managed Doherty at Bohemians in Ireland.

"He's given us a bit of a problem where we play him now, which is a plus."

Doherty is enjoying playing under Fenlon again, having sought advice from Wolves' former Hibs striker Steven Fletcher over a move to Easter Road.

Doherty said: "Pat's no-nonsense but he's still very approachable. He's a good man-manager.

"I didn't even speak to him before signing as it was all done with my agent.

"They came in for me at the start of the month but Wolves wouldn't let me go at that point. Wolves said I could go on the last day.

"I spoke to Steven Fletcher, who told me it was a great place to continue learning my trade.

"(Ex-Hearts defender) Christophe Berra said nice things too."

While Hibs' place in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup is secure, Aberdeen must travel south to Palmerston Park in Dumfries to play Queen of the South on Tuesday night in a bid to join them in the last eight.

Dons boss Craig Brown, who was content with his injury-hit team's draw at Easter Road, is wary of the Irn-Bru First Division opposition.

He said: "Tuesday's of major importance to us and we know it's a cup final for Queen of the South. We've got to treat it the same as they do.

"If we're in any way complacent we could suffer.

"The standard is quite gritty in that league and we've got to be up for that game."
