Fergie: FA are picking on me

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is convinced the FA are picking on him as he waits to hear if he will face any punishment for criticising an official.

Ferguson was furious that linesman Simon Beck did not flag for a penalty in United's 1-1 draw with Tottenham, with the Scotsman convinced Steven Caulker fouled Wayne Rooney in the box.

The FA has until Tuesday evening to decide what action, if any, it will take against him but Ferguson feels he receives unfair treatment from English football's governing body.

"I just think it is more about me than what I've said. Whether I think it is unfair or not doesn't matter to them really at this point," he told The Sun.

Ferguson has submitted his comments regarding his criticism of assistant Beck to the FA and his focus was on the official's performance rather than suggesting there was any bias against United.

"That is what I have put in my letter exactly. But you know the FA," he added.

"You never know. It is one of these things. We are high profile."

When it was put to Ferguson he may not be charged by the FA, he replied: "I wouldn't bet on it."

what do you think?

Ha ha ha! Quote of the year so far 'the FA are picking on me' this coming from a serial bully, A fantasia manager but Matt Busby and Bob Paisley had more class and dignity in their big toes than this man has seeping through his whole body!

Totally agree esp re Paisley, who proved a quiet man can succeed. If FA are not picking on Fergie they really ought to be by now. He has had so many warnings and riddiculously small penalties, its time they got serious. Sentence him to five hours of flying boots in his direction!

I laughed out loud when I saw this, I mean of all people, for years he has moaned, critisised, and berated people, it's about time the FA came down hard on him, he thinks he is above the law.

we have these type of low-life on my estate. they gob it off, intimidate and bully. then big boys come along and they start crying that they are being victimised. one really has to question the standing of being knighted nowadays when this kind of person is given one. a very successful manager but a very unsuccessful person ( based on integrity, sincerity and morality, before the replies about how rich he is!).

Andy you only know SAF from odd football related incidents your comments are personal to him and his standing as a knight of the realm. you are a disgrace.

martin, you're right, i only know how he conducts himself in the public eye and it is that very persona he projects that either strengthens or weakens the man-in-the-streets view. he is knighted and expected to represent the honour bestowed upon him in a manner befitting the title. btw, i don't think he was knighted by the way he treats his family at home, it was all based upon his very public football related career, so your arguement has no logic. i can't accuse you of being a disgrace ( as you have me) as you've probably over achieved in life by posting on here, so well done to you.

btw martin, how do you think your lovely alex would have reacted if he had been assaulted by david beckham in the changing rooms? i'm fairly sure not in the same way that beckham reacted to ferguson assaulting him. fergusons behaviour is endorsed by some but certainly not by me.

If you look at the timing of his knighthood you will see it was nothing to do with football, just before the 1997 election he made a speech about how great Tony Blurt and new labour were, they got in and he got knighted.

btw SAF was knighted for winning the treble he also has an obe from 84, most of the comments on here are from liverpool supporters who are like rats up a drainpipe where he is concerned mostly because their team cannot do it for them on the pitch.

Fact is it was a pen. Why shouldn't a manager make claim to that. If a player gets sent off or done for something the fa are quick to act. Why dont they act when there refs are having poor gamesand making wrong calls

i guess jamie, because players and managers are continuously cheating and trying to fool the officials. you don't see refs diving on the floor when they haven't been touched or running up and swearing in the faces of players. the adults with childrens brains need an adult to keep them in check, i.e. the officials and fa.
