Fergie hits back at Pardew

Sir Alex Ferguson has defended his conduct on Boxing Day, launched a withering attack on Alan Pardew and labelled Newcastle a "wee club."

The Manchester United manager has been heavily criticised for his behaviour in the 4-3 win in which he was seen to remonstrate with referee Mike Dean and his assistants.

Pardew said Ferguson should have been punished, and that Dean may regret not reporting the United boss to the FA.

But Ferguson said: "I was demonstrative but I was not out of order. The press have had a field day. The only person they have not spoken to is Barack Obama because he is busy.

"It is unfortunate but I am the manager of the most famous club in the world. Not Newcastle, a wee club in the north east.

"I was demonstrative. I am always demonstrative. Everyone knows that. I am an emotional guy. But I was not abusive.

"I shouted Mike over. We walked towards each other. I was only on (the pitch) three or four yards. That has been overplayed.

"The problem for me is that the profile of this club is huge.

"Alan Pardew has come out and criticised me. He is the worst at haranguing referees. He shoves them and makes a joke of it. How he can criticise me is unbelievable. He forgets the help I gave him, by the way."

Pardew was given a two-match touchline ban and fined £20,000 after accepting an FA charge of improper conduct for pushing an assistant referee earlier this season.

He was sent off during the 2-1 win over Tottenham on August 18 at St James' Park when he pushed Peter Kirkup after claiming the ball had gone out of play during a Spurs attack.

what do you think?

No ! he like anyone that considers themselves a sportsman should accept the officials decision. If he has a grievance, go through the appropriate channels of complaint, a rugby player does it, so why not a poofballer.

Bang on Steven. Yes referees make mistakes but perhaps if the didnt have every single player and every single manager spending the whole game trying to con and cheat them over every single decision ,then maybe they would stand a better chance of getting more things right. As it is,i think the officials do a fantastic job and should be congratulated for the job they do rather than managers constantly having a go at them to try and disguise their own shortcomings.

I watched the whole match live (outside the UK) with unbiased comments from the commentators - so refreshing - referee had a stinker from start to finish, not only the goal but throughout the match, that is why SAF was worked up - and the commentators correctly said the goal should not have been allowed. If anyone else thinks the FA or referees are biased towards ManU they need to look back over the last few years - the list is too long to mention the bad decisions against ManU -every team gets some in favour and some against - but its only because it's ManU that thre is so much hoo-hah about it

ferguson is a bully, he always has a lot to say about everyone else when his team are loosing. he spent ages mouthing off to the fourth official throughout the match and only shut up when united went ahead. we all know the fa are in cahoots with the rich, sorry, big clubs.

I think cameras would help to resolve the problems that plague the game ! There is a lot that needs to be resolved, it is only a matter of time. Maybe then the people that cause contraversey will be sorted out.

If he's past his sell-by date - god help the rest. Beckham has never worked with Wenger so how would he know. PS what was the last trophy Wenger won, an FA Cup Final nearly 8 years ago that they shouldn't have won anyway . Ridiculous comment. Barcelona and Real Madrid are not funded in the same way and are not significantly bigger than ManU. When the Spanish FA start sharing the TV revenue between all the clubs (as in the UK) in the Spanish league instead of giving nearly all of it to the big 2, you may see a significant change

Fergie is a genius! When he said 'he forgets the help I gave him, by the way' I bet as soon Pardew saw that the first thing he did was call Fergie to apologize! Boom!! 25 years at a top club, that hasn't happened because he's timid!
