Fergie makes time-keeping call

Sir Alex Ferguson wants time-keeping to be taken off referees after bemoaning the amount added on in Manchester United's defeat to Tottenham.

Chris Foy played four additional minutes in the second half at Old Trafford.

United were unable to take advantage as they slumped to a surprise loss, which ended Tottenham's 23-year wait for a win at Old Trafford and left Ferguson's side four points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea.

But the Scot was furious at what he believed was a lack of injury time, which he felt did not take into account six substitions and some time-wasting tactics from the visitors.

And, as happens in rugby league, Ferguson feels referees should be stripped of the responsibility.

"It is a flaw in the game that referees are responsible for time-keeping," he told BBC Sport.

"It is nearly 2013 and the referee still has control of that.

"They gave four minutes. It is an insult. It is ridiculous. It is denying you the proper chance to win the football match.

"There were six substitutions and the trainer came on. That is four minutes right away.

"The goalkeeper must have wasted two minutes. They took their time at every goal kick. That is obvious to everyone."

what do you think?

Just take the defeat gracefully Fergie, and stop your moaning and excuse's, you were beaten by the better side yesterday, and the time Chris Foy added on was correct, you can't win them all, we are all fed up with your fergie time! Why don't you just ask the ref, if he can play on until your team score the winning goal in every game! My boyz done your boyz fair and square yesterday and in the correct time. FACT! COYS !!!

Colin i think you are wrong. United played so much better than spurs second half and deserved. Vertonghens goals was a fluke and united deserved one penalty, missed two sitters and hit both the post and crossbar

"It is a flaw in the game that referees are responsible for time-keeping," Didn't hear that one all last season Fergie! On "Fergie Time" last season you managed to scrape draws from potential defeat & wins from potential draws. So shut up, give us all a rest, because you are starting to sound a bit worried that you cannot clinch games in the 90 minutes allocated.

Fergie's got some nerve making comments like this. It's a well known fact he's influenced added time in favour of United for years. And ONE TIME it doesn't go his way, he kick's off. You were beaten by a better side, just accept it gracefully
