Ferguson salutes United

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson commended his team's performance following a controversial clash with Newcastle on Boxing Day that left his side seven points clear at the top of the table.

In a thrilling 4-3 win over the Magpies, Javier Hernandez' 90th-minute half-volley clinched the game, following second-half goals from Patrice Evra and Robin van Persie that twice pulled the Reds level, amidst a fine finish from Papiss Cisse.

While James Perch's fifth-minute opener for Newcastle was soon cancelled out by Jonny Evans, confusion surrounded Newcastle's second, with Evans putting through his own net with Papiss Cisse in an offside position and the assistant referee initially raising his flag.

Ferguson hailed his United side for their performance and said they thoroughly deserved the win.

He said: "Once again they've proved their courage, they never gave in, we were down three times and came back three times and eventually they deserved to win the game.

"The third goal was a killer to us, I couldn't believe it, the third goal was a kick in the teeth. But they never gave in, that's the quality and they kept making chances. If you keep making them, you're bound to score some of them. And eventually we did."

Speaking of Newcastle's second, and controversial, goal, Ferguson said: "The linesman correctly whistled for offside because Cisse was in the offside position when the cross was made, he also pulled on Evans' arm.

"If that's not interference, what is interference? That's the point I was making to Mike Dean."

Ferguson's side, who have now won their last 10 Boxing Day games, sit seven points clear at the top of the Premier League, with rivals Manchester City suffering a shock defeat to Sunderland.

Ferguson added: "Never mind where we are at this moment in time. That was a championship performance tonight. Absolutely unbelievable."

For abusing and showing disrespect to a match official, it`s quite plain to see it too.

Having seen fergies rant at half time just reinforces my opinion that he should pack it in before he has a heart attack, He needs to learn the rules of football before he starts to shout, the pressure he puts on officials is unbelieveable.

Exactly, the man should learn to respect those that run the match and make the decisions, maybe the officials should be given more powers as in rugby, then maybe the schoolboy antics will stop.

This man like a lot of other managers are a classic example of what is wrong with football as a sport. Any signs of abuse to those that run the game should be punished heavily, fines, bans, points deducted etc. Even exclusion from competitions for the most serious of offences, after all it`s only a game.

Someone definitely wants to find a way to stop Man U winning the league - now there's a 7 point gap, panic is setting in - strange that when other managers question the officials or push him over like Pardew - not a word is said. If football is so bad and not interested in it why are you looking at football commentaries, maybe I should find a page on crochet or knitting and make some ridculous comment on that

You need to make a fair and valid point about a man that has blatantly abused an official, not what other people do or not do, Pardew is not the issue here, it`s Ferguson who has caused the issue and he has got away with it.

for the umpteenth time there was no abuse - got away with what - telling the truth? Exactly my point - no-one is interested in what other managers do only when it concerns Manu and SAF

You really cannot see what thousands have seen, or the fact it`s made the headlines, it will happen again too.

Exactly my point again - it made the headlines - only because it's ManU

steven

It made the headlines because it`s high profile, not because of the teams name

Exactly, the best manager ever by a long way, he makes some mistakes occasionally but then the people who make these ridiculous comments are perfect , aren't they? Pure jealousy that's all

Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes, what has jealousy got to do with a football manager making a mistake ? A mistake that he got away with, ridiculous comments have come from those that cannot or will not see the error this man has made, fact!
